Abstract
Digital transformation constitutes a challenge for the worldwide industry but it also offers an opportunity to improve competitiveness. It is a process that can be broken down into different phases but that, in short, is the process of change that is necessary to allow a company to compete in the market with native digital companies that place the customer at the center of the organization and always seek to simplify their work in order to digitalize. The purpose of the study is to fill the gap in the strategic digital transformation operational framework. The main objectives of the study are to: explore empirically the implications of ICT evolution and their impacts at a social, political and economic level; examine the relationships between digital transformation and Industry 4.0; contribute to a better understanding of the challenge for the worldwide industry; and, provide businesses with an opportunity to improve their competitive position. Due to the nature of this research, a methodological approach based on the combination of synthetic and analytical methods; i.e. a Digital Transformation Strategy Model for companies within the Industry 4.0 framework was chosen. The first major practical contribution of the study is that it provides a strategic framework and a set of tools and actions for the Digital Transformation of all types of companies. A second important implication of our study comes from the results, which gives a specific set of skills, information sources, decision styles, and attitudes for developing a successful Digital Transformation strategy.
