Abstract

Usualmente se considera que en el sistema capitalista existe un único equilibrio general de los mercados y que este equilibrio ya fue descubierto por Wa1ras.Y no habría más equilibrio general a descubrir. Aquí parece haberse tomado como paralelo una experiencia en la física: en el sistema solar hay un único equilibrio general entre los astros que giran alrededor del sol y Newton lo descubrió;y sobre unas ideas iniciales de Copérnico y otras más perfeccionadas de Kepler, le dio una formulación completa en su Teoría de la Gravitación Universal. De la misma manera, se piensa, la única teoría de equilibrio general en el sistema capitalista es la walrasiana. Este libro intenta mostrar que esa concepción es errada. Este es un tema todavía muy debatido en la literatura.Aquí se estudiarán los fundamentos de cada teoría para mostrar que, sobe el sistema capitalista, hay varias teorías de equilibrio general. Se mostrará que cada escuela tiene, en efecto, su propia teoría de equilibrio general. Pero jcuál de ellas tiene mayor poder explicativo? Esto no es evidente. Para ello se requiere de la contrastación empírica de estas teorías. Ciertamente, para el economista que sólo conoce una teoría hay un problema: no tendrá más remedio que calzar, de alguna manera, la realidad a su teoría. Pero, en cualquier caso, estas teorías no han sido puestas a la verificación empirica ni siquiera en las economías capitalistas desarrolladas.
