Abstract

This monograph is the result of the activities of the project ¹ PUB-2022-10 "Research, inclusion and expansion of new audiences - building an intercultural and educational bridge between Bulgarian chitalishte and museums", funded by the 2022 Audiences Programme of the National Culture Fund. The project was implemented in the period 2022 - 2023 with the participation of experts from the University of Economics - Varna and the Regional History Museum - Varna. The main aim of this monograph is to formulate measures for attracting and retaining audiences in chitalishte (community cultural centres), based on relevant empirical research and best practice studies. In order to achieve this aim, the main tasks of the monograph are as follows: 1. To review the activities of Bulgarian chitalishte and their role in the preservation of national culture. 2. To study and analyse the views of the chitalishte activists on the role and place of the Bulgarian chitalishte in our modern times. 3. To research and analyse the views of the chitalishte audience on the role and place of the Bulgarian chitalishte in our times. 4. To make a comparative analysis of the views of chitalishte activists and Chitalishte audiences on the role and development prospects of chitalishte in Bulgaria. 5. To study and describe best practices in working with audiences of chitalishte and museums in Bulgaria. On the basis of the analyses carried out and the best practices studied, measures were formulated to attract and retain chitalishte audiences in the following areas: activities, initiatives and events offered by chitalishte; communication of chitalishte with their current and potential audiences; formation of partnerships of chitalishte with other organisations and institutions; state and municipal support for the maintenance and development of chitalishte; creation and maintenance of partnerships between chitalishte and museums.
