Heavy Metals and Pollution - New Methods in Detection and Treatment - Research Collection

Abstract

While being important resources in both industry and biological systems, human activity has made heavy metals an environmental problem. This book sets out to explore the detection and treatment methods for problematic instances of heavy metals in our environment. In terms of detection, the chapters address electrochemical detection methods as well as use of optical fibres. One chapter offers an overview of the various treatment methods of radioactive wastes, besides their electrochemical applications. Finally, one contribution presents a geographically situated study of heavy-metal pollution in San Joaquin, in characterizing the area's soils and sediments that are polluted with mercury. This text will be essential reading for both chemists and all with an interest in environmental issues.
