Abstract

Muchos problemas del desarrollo van más allá de las fronteras nacionales y tienen un carácter regional e incluso global. El reconocimiento de estos retos, los cuales van de la transmisión de enfermedades entre fronteras hasta la dispersión de inestabilidad financiera global, ha llevado a una nueva necesidad de contenerlos y resolverlos. Dado que un país actuando solo no puede enfrentar tales retos, es necesaria la coordinación internacional, pero ésta es, típicamente, difícil de lograr. El propósito de este libro es presentar brevemente las principales conclusiones del documento del Banco Mundial, Global Development Finance 2001: Building Coalitions for Effective Development Finance, publicado en abril del 2001, que discute la evolución de esta preocupación. y, principalmente, hacer que los documentos de soporte estén disponibles para la audiencia académica y los planeadores de política.
