Abstract

Le Global Hunger Index 2011 (GHI), ou Indice de la faim dans le monde, est un outil statistique qui permet de mesurer et de suivre l’évolution de la faim dans le monde, pays par pays et région par région. Les conclusions du GHI de cette dernière édition montrent que le nombre de personnes qui souffrent de la faim a reculé depuis 1990, mais pas de manière significative puisqu’il demeure à un niveau élevé correspondant à une situation « grave ». Les scores GHI varient considérablement selon les régions et les pays. L’Asie du Sud et l’Afrique Subsaharienne sont les régions qui présentent les indices les plus élevés. L’Asie du Sud est parvenue à réduire son score GHI de manière substantielle entre 1990 et 1996, mais ce résultat rapide n’a pas pu être poursuivi. Bien que l’Afrique Subsaharienne ait moins progressé que l’Asie du Sud après 1990, elle a en revanche en partie rattrapé son retard depuis le début du XXIe siècle.
