Abstract

Esta obra ofrece una amplia perspectiva de la integración laboral en España de tres colectivos desfavorecidos: los jóvenes, las mujeres y las personas mayores. Partiendo de la premisa según la cual la igualdad de oportunidades exige instituciones que velen por el bienestar de las personas más postergadas, se describen las desventajas relativas de cada grupo y las estrategias de intervención del Estado para subsanarlas, proporcionando información empírica y un marco conceptual adaptado a la realidad socioeconómica española. Instituciones, igualdad de oportunidades y bienestar económico en España se vertebra en cuatro partes. En la primera de ellas se presenta el marco conceptual y el contexto institucional. Se describen, a continuación, las características, circunstancias y necesidades de los grupos desfavorecidos. En la tercera parte se analizan los aspectos relevantes de la política social para la igualdad de oportunidades. Finalmente, se valora la importancia de la educación y de las nuevas tecnologías como potenciales generadoras de nuevas oportunidades laborales. Entre las conclusiones más generales de esta obra figuran la necesidad de políticas compensatorias del Estado como paliativo contra la discriminación y también de instituciones flexibles, capaces de adaptarse a los cambios demográficos y al acelerado ritmo de cambio tecnológico a comienzos del siglo XXI.
