Abstract

PAZ EN LA REPÚBLICA es una contribución de un grupo de historiadores a la pregunta fundamental de nuestro tiempo: ¿cómo pasar de la guerra a la paz? Centrando la atención en el siglo XIX, este libro amplía la perspectiva de un problema que suele restringirse a las negociaciones con la guerrilla en las últimas cuatro décadas. Cada uno de los siete capítulos que lo componen estudia la manera en que concluyó una guerra civil, los esfuerzos realizados para mantener la paz y las razones que llevaron a una nueva guerra. Un posfacio cierra el volumen comparando estas experiencias históricas con los acuerdos firmados en La Habana y el Teatro Colón por el gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos y las FARC. En fin de cuentas, esta investigación muestra que el mantenimiento de la paz en la república fue la cuestión primordial del siglo XIX.
