Abstract

Bajo la lluvia incesante, el Ejército Libertador atraviesa los llanos de Casanare y el páramo de Pisba para desafiar a las tropas del rey en el altiplano cundiboyacense. Las dificultades de la expedición, la desnudez y la pobreza generalizada destinan a los revolucionarios a una nueva derrota, pero el apoyo masivo del pueblo neogranadino transforma súbitamente la campaña. La noticia de una batalla perdida en Boyacá aterroriza al virrey y a las principales autoridades reales, que huyen de Santa Fe. Buena parte del territorio neogranadino cae entonces en manos de los republicanos por un efecto dominó: es el desplome inesperado y definitivo de la monarquía.
