En este texto se explica, de un lado, cómo Roma, una pequeña aldea fundada cerca del río Tíber, entre siete colinas que aún hoy se recorren en un plácido paseo vespertino otoñal, se convirtió en el gran imperio que abarcó desde Mesopotamia hasta Britania, y de otro, cómo se erigió en cuna del denominado derecho continental, por medio del cual pervive hoy escapando a la vejez y a la muerte.
