Abstract

This study, titled ‘Investment Opportunities in Low-Carbon, Cutting-Edge Technology Deployment in Asia’, provides a comprehensive market-based analysis of low-carbon energy projects currently under development, as well as those that have been canceled, across ASEAN countries. The research includes an in-depth review of energy policies, investment promotion strategies, and environmental protection regulations in each ASEAN Member State. To ensure a robust and effective analysis, the study categorises key risks and opportunities associated with these projects. The study explores a range of low-carbon energy technologies, including – but not limited to – solar photovoltaic (PV), wind energy, hydropower, biomass, and hydrogen. It emphasises the need for both governments and business entities to disclose and share information on all low-carbon energy projects, including those that have been suspended or frozen, in addition to successfully completed initiatives. Furthermore, the research identifies several risk factors that vary depending on project type, location, and the maturity level of the technologies involved. These risks include financial feasibility, return on investment, technological challenges, and social and environmental considerations. Addressing these risks effectively will be critical in fostering a more transparent, investment-friendly, and resilient low-carbon energy market in ASEAN.
