Prevención y reducción del abandono escolar en América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

A pesar de los importantes avances educativos de las últimas décadas, en 2019 América Latina y el Caribe se encontraba lejos de alcanzar las metas establecidas en el Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 4 (ODS 4), en que se insta a “garantizar una educación inclusiva, equitativa y de calidad y promover oportunidades de aprendizaje durante toda la vida para todos”. La crisis social prolongada provocada por la pandemia de enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) impuso desafíos aún más grandes en el camino: de todas las escuelas del mundo, las de la región fueron las que permanecieron cerradas durante más tiempo entre 2020 y 2022 (70 semanas en promedio), lo que dejó librados a niñas, niños y adolescentes a las ventajas y desventajas de sus hogares de origen, aumentó su exposición a contextos de violencia y al trabajo infantil, interrumpió sus procesos educativos y afectó de forma negativa sus aprendizajes y progresión escolar.
