Abstract

El litio es uno de los elementos fundamentales para la transición energética, en especial porque es un insumo hasta ahora insustituible para la producción de las baterías de iones de litio, una tecnología clave para la descarbonización del transporte y el almacenamiento de energía generada a partir de fuentes renovables. Además, el litio es considerado un recurso estratégico por los países que cuentan con yacimientos abundantes. En América Latina destaca el denominado “triángulo del litio”, integrado por la Argentina, Bolivia (Estado Plurinacional de) y Chile, al tiempo que el Brasil, México y el Perú, con depósitos menos extensos, tienen posibilidades de desarrollar una importante producción.
