Abstract

Desde que se declaró la pandemia del COVID-19 el 11 de marzo del 2020, en América Latina y el Caribe, al igual que en otras regiones del mundo, ha sido necesario afrontar la intensificación de la violencia por razón de género contra las mujeres y las niñas agravada por las medidas de confinamiento, distanciamiento físico y las restricciones de movilidad que aumentaron el aislamiento de las mujeres de sus redes de apoyo y han generado barreras adicionales en el acceso a servicios esenciales. Ante esta emergencia global, 146 Estados Miembros y observadores han expresado su apoyo al llamado del Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas (abril, 2020) para asegurar que la prevención y la reparación de la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas fuera una parte central de los planes nacionales de respuesta a la COVID-19.
