Abstract

Osvaldo Sunkel es un referente esencial de las ciencias sociales latinoamericanas. Su figura y obra, no obstante, trascienden el debate regional; su pensamiento puede situarse con total propiedad junto a los máximos exponentes de la teoría del desarrollo surgida en los años de la segunda posguerra mundial. Desde la década de 1950 hasta nuestros días Sunkel ha sido un observador activo del devenir global y regional de la historia económica contemporánea, así como también de los hitos más relevantes del proceso de desarrollo económico de Chile, su país de origen. En este libro se ofrece un conjunto de ensayos cuyo propósito esencial es rendir tributo a la vasta trayectoria intelectual de este destacado pensador de los problemas y desafíos del desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe. Sus capítulos, además de describir los temas que a su debido momento suscitaron su atención, también pretenden reexaminar sus ideas en el marco de la realidad actual. Con este doble propósito, el libro se ha materializado gracias a las contribuciones de destacados economistas y cientistas sociales vinculados al ámbito del desarrollo.
