Abstract

El rápido envejecimiento de la población en América Latina y el Caribe trae consigo múltiples desafíos y exige acciones que garanticen la distribución justa de los recursos para responder adecuadamente a las necesidades de todos los grupos etarios. Requiere, asimismo, un cambio de actitudes, políticas y prácticas para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas mayores. En este marco, la inclusión efectiva de las personas de edad tiene relación con la equidad en el acceso a diferentes servicios y beneficios sociales y económicos, así como con la garantía y el ejercicio de sus derechos humanos. En este documento, elaborado por la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) para la Cuarta Conferencia Regional Intergubernamental sobre Envejecimiento y Derechos de las Personas Mayores en América Latina y el Caribe (Asunción, del 27 al 30 de junio de 2017) se documentan los principales avances, limitaciones y desafíos para el ejercicio de los derechos humanos de las personas mayores en la región y en el mundo.
