Abstract

A região conta com uma experiência de quase 40 anos em que os Estados, através das Conferências Regionais sobre a Mulher da América Latina e do Caribe, com a incidência e o apoio da sociedade civil, avançaram por um caminho de consensos para conseguir a superação das desigualdades de gênero e o exercício dos direitos e da autonomia das mulheres. Os esforços para integrar as mulheres no desenvolvimento, que no início constituíam o objetivo central, hoje se traduzem em novos desafios, entre os quais o desenvolvimento sustentável com igualdade de gênero ocupa um lugar privilegiado. Este documento é um convite e um instrumento para pensar no futuro, consolidar os avanços alcançados, deixar de adiar compromissos e obrigações em torno dos direitos das mulheres e planejar o caminho que assegure que a região alcance plenamente um desenvolvimento sustentável com igualdade de gênero.
