Abstract

La región cuenta con una experiencia de casi 40 años en que los Estados, a través de las Conferencias Regionales sobre la Mujer de América Latina y el Caribe, con la incidencia y el apoyo de la sociedad civil, han venido avanzando por un camino de consensos para lograr a superación de las desigualdades de género y el ejercicio de los derechos y la autonomía de las mujeres. Los esfuerzos por integrar a las mujeres en el desarrollo, que en un comienzo constituían el objetivo central, se traducen hoy en nuevos retos, entre los cuales el desarrollo sostenible con igualdad de género ocupa un lugar privilegiado. Este documento es una invitación y un instrumento para pensar en el futuro, consolidar los avances logrados, dejar de postergar compromisos y obligaciones en torno a los derechos de las mujeres y planificar el camino que asegure a la región alcanzar plenamente el desarrollo sostenible con igualdad de género.
