Abstract

La Carta Cultural Iberoamericana aprobada por la Cumbre de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno en Montevideo en el año 2006, plantea, como exigencia, que la cultura iberoamericana se reconozca y consolide como uno de los ejes vertebradores de nuestra vida colectiva. Sus objetivos principales pueden resumirse en tres imperativos, a saber: afirmar el valor central de la cultura para el desarrollo humano, promover y proteger la diversidad cultural y consolidar el espacio cultural iberoamericano. Es imprescindible impulsar la reflexión sobre el papel de la cultura en el desarrollo de los pueblos en un mundo cada vez más globalizado y de creciente penetración de las tecnologías en sociedades multiculturales. Semejante reflexión deberá contribuir a una acción transformadora que otorgue a la cultura la necesaria centralidad en el progreso de los pueblos y en el bienestar y el buen vivir de los ciudadanos. La intención de este documento es promover una acción colectiva para responder a estos retos históricos a partir de los mandatos y finalidades contenidas en la Carta Cultural Iberoamericana.
