Abstract

Presentación Este documento contiene una evaluación de la economía de la región al término del primer semestre de 2002 y de las perspectivas para el resto del año, en el contexto de lo acontecido en el año anterior. Incluye un análisis de los principales aspectos de la economía regional: sector externo, nivel de actividad, inflación, empleo, ahorro, inversión y política macroeconómica. Va acompañado de un anexo estadístico compuesto de 13 cuadros con series de datos hasta el 2001. El documento fue presentado a la prensa el 1 de agosto de 2002 por José Antonio Ocampo, Secretario Ejecutivo de la CEPAL. Con su distribución se procura suplir la función cumplida anteriormente por el Panorama económico de América Latina, publicación dada a conocer en el mes de septiembre de 1985 a 1996. Se publica también como primer capítulo del Estudio económico de América Latina y el Caribe 2001-2002, cuya versión completa aparece en septiembre en español y posteriormente en inglés.
