Abstract

Esta síntesis del Estudio económico de América Latina y el Caribe, 1999-2000 corresponde al primer capítulo de la publicación, y se divulga sólo en español por el momento. Contiene una evaluación de la economía de la región durante 1999 y el primer semestre de 2000. La síntesis incluye también un resumen de los principales aspectos de los capítulos regionales del Estudio económico: sector externo, política macroeconómica, nivel de actividad, inflación, empleo, ahorro e inversión. Va acompañada de un anexo estadístico que contiene 13 cuadros incluidos en los capítulos regionales con series de datos que abarcan hasta 1999. Con la distribución masiva de esta síntesis se procura suplir la función cumplida antes por el Panorama económico de América Latina, publicación dada a conocer en el mes de septiembre de 1985 a 1996, puesto que proporciona información sobre las tendencias económicas de la región durante el primer semestre del año, en el contexto del desempeño del año anterior.
