Abstract

El Balance Preliminar de las Economías de América Latina y el Caribe, 2023 muestra que la actividad económica de América Latina y el Caribe continúa en una senda de bajo crecimiento. En 2023 todas las subregiones crecerán menos de lo que lo hicieron en 2022. Para 2024 se espera una tasa de crecimiento menor a la observada en 2023, acentuándose la dinámica de desaceleración del crecimiento del PIB y la creación de empleos. Se enfatiza que el bajo crecimiento esperado en 2023 y 2024 no es solo un problema coyuntural, sino que refleja la caída de la tasa de crecimiento tendencial del PIB regional. Como señala el informe, la región enfrenta múltiples desafíos para dinamizar el crecimiento en el corto plazo. La economía mundial sigue mostrando un bajo dinamismo de la tasa de crecimiento del PIB y del comercio. Los espacios para la política fiscal y monetaria siguen estando muy limitados en la región. En este contexto, se argumenta que es esencial contar con políticas macroeconómicas para incentivar y facilitar una mayor inversión a fin de crear resiliencia al cambio climático y fortalecer la capacidad de crecimiento de la región.
