Abstract

Thomas Sowell wurde 1930 in den USA geboren. Seine Jugend verbrachte er in North Carolina und New York. Über Umwege – er ging zunächst zum Militär und versuchte sich als Fotograph – fand er den Weg zur Universität und zu den Wirtschaftswissenschaften. Sowell studierte Ökonomie in Harvard. In Cornell wurde er Assistenzprofessor, bevor er 1968 in Chicago promovierte. Professuren führten ihn an die Brandeis Universität und die UCLA. Ende der 70er Jahre wurde er an die Hoover Institution in Stanford berufen. Dort lehrt er seit über 40 Jahren als Senior Fellow.
