Abstract
The scientific implementation and systematic management of carbon mitigation projects are crucial to achieving the carbon neutrality goal.Carbon Mitigation System Engineering: Principles, Methods and Practices systematically presents the theoretical, technical and practical systems of carbon mitigation system engineering, which were proposed and developed by the author and his team on the basis of their long-term research and practice in the field of carbon mitigation.The first part addresses four core balancing dilemmas in the process of carbon mitigation: short-term versus long-term emission reduction, local versus overall emission reduction, government regulation versus market mechanism, and development versus emission reduction. On this foundation, it establishes the theory of carbon mitigation system engineering, referred to as the "time-space-effect-benefit" overall planning theory.Guided by the "time-space-effect-benefit" overall planning theory, the second part constructs the technical system of carbon mitigation system engineering — namely carbon mitigation pathway design and system optimization technologies. The team has independently researched and successfully developed an integrated assessment technology system and platform, abbreviated as he China’s Climate Change Integrated Assessment Model (C3IAM).The third part, also under the guidance of the aforementioned theory and with the application of the pathway design and system optimization technologies, centers on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) — a typical carbon mitigation engineering project — and focuses on practical engineering applications including project feasibility evaluation, engineering site selection, infrastructure planning, schedule management, operation optimization and risk management.Finally, in alignment with China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategy, the book systematically examines the four pairs of core relationships involved in realizing China's "dual carbon" goals, develops relevant pathway optimization methodologies, and puts forward the timetable and roadmap for China to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
