Priorities and Policies for Child Welfare (Приоритети и политики за благосъстоянието на децата) - in Bulgarian

The book “Priorities and Policies for Child Welfare” (in Bulgarian) presents the results of a monographic study, done within the framework of the scientific and research program of the Economic Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The publication is realized with an assistance of the Christian Children’s Fund of Great Britain and the European Children’s Trust. It is devoted to exceptionally important problems connected with the creation of suitable socio-economic and family environment for children as well as the development of new policies and mechanisms for improving child welfare. Based on an analysis and evaluation of a system of direct and indirect indicators of child welfare suggested by the authors, the following issues are argued in the study: the concept of child welfare; the prioritizing preventative policies for children at risk; the legislation, policies and new approaches and mechanisms for increasing the efficiency of social practice for improvement the status of women as mothers and professionals, and for family support; changes in social assistance and services provision, targeting families with children at risk; the role of the non-governmental sector as a state partner and resource for social protection of children and families. The book is addressed to competent state and regional authorities, child care institutions, NGOs, researchers, lecturers and students as well as to parents who want to figure out their rights and to find decisions for their problems.
