Abstract

Esta obra de Gregory Clark es un estudio por demás minucioso sobre movilidad social, pero esta vez, las medidas no son las convencionales en análisis contemporáneos sobre el tema. El autor echa mano de los apellidos para poner sobre la mesa lo que ha sucedido en países como Suecia, Inglaterra, Estados Unidos, China, Japón, Chile, India, entre otros. Las sociedades que aquí se analizan han sufrido transformaciones, han implementado políticas públicas en favor de las personas en pobreza; algunas han quitado privilegios a las familias de abolengo. Si bien ha sucedido todo para que cambien las tasas de movilidad social, los resultados no son prometedores. El que haya lugares en donde la calidad de vida sea mejor que en otros, no se traduce en mayor movilidad social. Si el esfuerzo se compensa poco, si las políticas públicas parecen no permear, si los cambios sociales no bastan… ¿qué espacio queda para la movilidad? ¿Será que vivimos en una sociedad que ya es justa y no la vemos?
