Abstract

The study is a descriptive survey aimed at investigating quality of engineering graduates in the face of incessant strike actions by lecturers. The area of study was Imo State. Two tertiary institutions, Imo State University Owerri (IMSU) and Federal University of Technology (FUTO) were used in the study. One Hundred and Seventy (170) Engineering lecturers representing about 83% of the population of Two Hundred and Four (204) were sampled. Stratified Proportionate Sampling technique was employed in selecting the sample. Four research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Weighted Mean was used in analyzing the research questions while Z-test was used to test the null hypothesis Findings revealed amongst others, that lecturers engage in strike actions very often, engineering course contents are not usually covered due to strike actions and that incessant strike actions have great consequences on the quality of engineering graduates. Based on the findings, the paper recommends that Lecturers should put humane face in their duties and consider their products. In addition to physical classroom interactions, lecturers and students should employ the use of online classes to deal with theoretical contents so as to address the issue of content coverage. The government should do the needful by addressing the issues that necessitate incessant strike actions by the lecturers.
