Abstract

Mung bean is experiencing reduced productivity and profitability attributed to conventional management practices. The profitability and productivity of the mung bean is influenced by the different variety and nitrogen dose. Thus, a field experiment was conducted to access the effect of different variety and nitrogen dose on the growth and yield of mung bean on Sunwal, Nawalparasi from march-2024 to June-2024. The study was conducted on split plot design including different variety viz. Pratigya and Pratiksha as main- plot factor and nitrogen dose viz. 0 kg/ha, 10 kg/ha, 20kg/ha, 30 kg/ha as sub- plot factor. The field data on phenology, crop growth, yield attributes, yield of economics of crop production were collected. The study revealed that the grain yield of mung was significantly influenced by cultivars, with Pratigya exhibiting highest yield comparable to Pratiksha. While, nitrogen dose (30 kg/ha) yields more seeds than nitrogen dose (0 kg/ha), but the difference was not statically significant. Conversely, straw yield was significantly higher in Pratiksha. The harvest index shows no significant variation across the treatments. Economic analysis revealed no significant difference on cost, gross return or net return, however Pratigya consistently achieved higher net returns and Benefit- cost ratio. The findings underscore the importance of nitrogen dose application in enhancing mung bean yield and profitability, suggesting that appropriate variety choices can optimize production outcomes.
