Wie die Vergangenheit zählt. Ein Kooperationsprojekt zur Geschichte des Statistischen Bundesamtes

Abstract

Das Statistische Bundesamt ist die zentrale Behörde, die quantitatives amtliches Wissen über die deutsche Gesellschaft produziert und verbreitet. Sowohl die Inhalte dieser Daten als auch die Institution und ihre Akteure unterliegen einem historischen Wandel. Das Projekt "Wie die Vergangenheit zählt. Zur Geschichte des Statistischen Bundesamtes (GeStat)" untersucht ausgewählte Fragen der historischen Behördenforschung zu Kontinuitäten vom Nationalsozialismus in die frühe Bundesrepublik. Der Fokus liegt jedoch auf einer Analyse der Institution im Sinne einer "Problemgeschichte der Gegenwart". Daher wird der Zeitraum von den Volkszählungsprotesten der 1980er bis heute untersucht, einschließlich zentraler historischer Ereignisse wie der deutschen Vereinigung. Partizipative Wissenschaftskommunikation ist ein integraler Bestandteil des Projekts.
