Passantenzahlen als möglicher Frühindikator für die Konjunktur von Einzelhandel und Gastgewerbe

Abstract

Das Statistische Bundesamt erforscht seit 2020 Passantenfrequenzdaten für die amtliche Statistik. Ziel ist unter anderem, aus den hochfrequenten Zeitreihen einen Konjunkturfrühindikator zu entwickeln, der die wirtschaftliche Situation im lokalen Einzelhandel und im Gastgewerbe am aktuellen Rand besser darstellt. Dazu geht dieser Beitrag der Frage nach, ob eine steigende Zahl von Menschen in Fußgängerzonen mit steigenden Umsätzen in diesen Branchen zusammenhängt. Basis ist der Passantenfrequenzindex, den das Statistische Bundesamt seit 2023 erstellt. Die aufwendige, tägliche Kalender- und Saisonbereinigung der Zeitreihe erfolgt hierbei durch die Deutsche Bundesbank und wird ebenfalls detailliert erläutert.
