35-Stunden-Woche in der ostdeutschen Industrie: Eine ökonomische Nachlese

Abstract

Im Frühjahr dieses Jahres versuchte die IG Metall, die 35-Stunden-Woche auch in Ostdeutschland einzuführen. Damit setzte sie sich erheblicher – zum Teil ideologisch gefärbter – Kritik aus Wissenschaft, Politik und Medien aus. Dies umso mehr, als die Wirtschaft auf eine Rezession zusteuerte und die Arbeitszeitverkürzung von ihren Gegnern mit fatalen ökonomischen Fehlentwicklungen gleichgesetzt wurde. Welche Wirkungen wären tatsächlich von Arbeitszeitverkürzungen und einer abgestuft eingeführten 35-Stunden-Woche in ostdeutschen Unternehmen der Metall- und Elektroindustrie ausgegangen?
