Neuberechnung des RWI-ISL Containerumschlag-Index: Der Einfluss des chinesischen Neujahrsfestes

Abstract

Der RWI/ISL Containerumschlag-Index ist ein inzwischen erprobter Frühindikator des Welthandels. Die Ergebnisse für Januar und Februar sind allerdings bisweilen schwierig zu interpretieren, weil chinesische Häfen ein hohes Gewicht im Index haben, das zur Saisonbereinigung verwendetete Census X12-Verfahren aber nicht die Möglichkeit bietet, den saisonalen Einfluss des chinesischen Neujahrsfestes zu berücksichtigen. Hier wird eine Neuschätzung des saisonbereinigten Index mit dem Census X13-Verfahren vorgestellt, das diese Möglichkeit bietet. Grundsätzlich weichen die neuen Werte nur wenig von den bisherigen Werten ab. Unterschiede zeigen sich vor allem dann, wenn das chinesische Neujahrsfest spät beginnt.
