Im Fokus: Ist Abwanderung typisch ostdeutsch? Regionale Mobilität im West-Ost-Vergleich

Abstract

In der Diskussion um die anhaltenden Wanderungsdefizite zahlreicher ostdeutscher Regionen wird von wissenschaftlicher Seite häufig darauf verwiesen, dass in Ostdeutschland ein Zuwanderungs-, aber kein Abwanderungsproblem besteht. Gemäß dieser Auffassung lägen die regionalen Fortzugsraten – ein gängiges Maß für die Mobilität der Bevölkerung – in den Neuen Bundesländern gar nicht signifikant über den Raten der Alten Länder. Diese Beobachtung soll im Folgenden einer differenzierten Analyse unterzogen werden. Die Differenzierungen, die fokussiert werden, betreffen die Wanderungsdistanz (Nahwanderungen vs. überregionale Wanderungen), alters- und geschlechtsspezifische sowie räumliche Muster des Abwanderungsgeschehens.
