Die ostdeutsche Tourismuswirtschaft – eine potenzielle Wachstumsbranche

Abstract

Seit 1990 wurde der Kapitalstock im ostdeutschen Beherbergungsgewerbe erheblich erweitert und modernisiert. 2003 standen, mit rund einer halben Million Betten, mehr als doppelt so viele Gästebetten zur Verfügung wie 1992. Die Fremdenverkehrsintensität (Übernachtungen je 1 000 Einwohner) ist im gleichen Zeitraum zwar auch beträchtlich gewachsen, nämlich auf rund das Zweieinhalbfache, dennoch ist die Auslastungsquote der Gästebetten, außer in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, nicht zufriedenstellend. Eine wichtige Aufgabe ist es daher, die insgesamt gesehen günstigen Bedingungen in Ostdeutschland für den Tourismus noch besser zu nutzen, auch um die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung zu beleben und Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen. Dafür sind geeignete Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen.
