Abstract

The paper analyses the efficiency and sustainability of the regional organisation of the Advisory Centres for Consumer Protection in the Republic of Croatia in the context of the Ministry’s decision to eliminate that arrangement. The study includes field research among active consumer protection associations in Croatia. Its aim is to determine whether the former regional network of advisory centres could meet the needs of consumers as natural persons and thereby support equal market competition with business entities. The paper also analyses the financial package of the national, regional and local levels of the Croatian consumer protection system. The results indicate inadequate efficiency and unsustainability of the recent system and offer alternative solutions for more effectively meeting the needs of the population in each Croatian region and in the country as a whole.
