Abstract

The main motivation of this document is to study the unemployment situation in Ecuador in the last quarter of 2020 in order to establish a descriptive analysis of the labor market. Data from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment for September and December are used. The survey methodology does not allow extrapolation, so the point estimates presented only represent the situation for the month in question. Unemployment determinants are considered under the specifications of a Linear Probability Model (LPM) and Probitand Logit models, the situation of people under these three regressions is studied. The incidence of exogenous shock from COVID-19 is analyzed. The main empirical results only allow us to observe in a trend waythe effects of the pandemic and the determinants of unemployment, making it impossible to carry out a Post-hoc analysis.
