El Efecto Socioeconómico de la Pandemia COVID-19 en Ecuador

Abstract

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ecuadorian economy has faced situations that have compromised its present and future stability. These events have forced the government to protect its citizens and generate efficient public health systems. In turn, the application of confinement measures has resulted in thousands of informal workers not being able to go out and generate their income. This means that infected individuals, in addition to fighting the disease, faced a reduction in their income. Through a static microsimulation approach, an increase in poverty (79.46%) and extreme poverty (69.98%) was found; in turn, there was a slight increase in inequality (0.65%). Finally, due to the deterioration in the economy, education and health, the development process was reduced (23.68%), eliminating the progress achievedin recent years in the country.
