Abstract

The research aims to examine the relationship between internal and external research and development(R&D), and human capital with the innovative performance of manufacturing companies in Ecuador. It is a quantitative, non-experimental and cross-sectional study that uses the data of the last survey of innovation activities of the year 2015 developed by the INEC. Research contributes to empirical evidence in developing countries where evidence is scarce. The results of the research indicate that Internal and External Research and Development is significantly related to product and process innovation, while no significant relationship was found between internal and external R&D expenses with product and process innovation. Regarding human capital, the results show that the stock of knowledge represented by the number of workers is related to the innovation of products and processes, while workers with higher education are significantly related to product innovation and training expenses. of innovation activities relate significantly only to process innovation. The results of this investigation are of practical utility of Managers and Administrators of the industrial companies that can increase the innovative potential of their companies through increasing the R&D in their companies and increasing the Human Capital.,
