Abstract

This document characterizes the labor demand of Ecuadorian companies along the 2010-2017 period. The information used for this analysis corresponds to the administrative data collected by the Laboratory of Labor and Business Dynamics of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). To put in evidence the potential of the database, the analysis explores the relationship between indicators of economic activity and the labor demand of formal companies. Subsequently, it presents a disaggregated analysis by industry, province, age, educational level, and other variables, which clarifies the understanding of the formal labor demand in the country compared to the results of employment surveys. In addition, the database is used to make projections with autoregressive models and macroeconomic variables. The Laboratory Ì s information related to labor demand allows a detailed analysis of the formal labor market which is critical for agenda setting and public policy formulation in several areas such as: employment, education and training, skills development, productivity, etc.
