Abstract

In order to directly investigate the energy band dispersion and the origin of the magnetic moment in intercalation compoundsFexTiS2, we have measured the angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) spectrum and the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) of the soft X-ray core absorption (XAS) spectra using a synchrotron light source. The energy band dispersion is clearly observed in the Ti2p3/2(eg)on-resonance ARPES spectra. In the Ti2pXAS spectra the MCD is clearly seen, suggesting that a magnetic moment is induced on the Ti atom through the hybridization with the Fe3dorbitals. We quantitatively estimate the orbital and spin magnetic moments of the Fe and Ti atoms by using the magneto-optical sum rules.
