Nanoscale Modification Of Thin Palladium Acetate Films With Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

Abstract

Thin films on solid surface prepared from palladium acetate are studied with respect to the formation of nanometer scale structures after the voltage pulses in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Explicit relief changes are observed. They correlate with the work function variation measured with the same STM in the tip-oscillating mode. The possible nature of STM-stimulated effects is discussed from the point of view of the tip-induced electrical field action upon chemical processes on the surface and in the solid phase.
