Exploring Future Research Paths For The Twin Transformation €” Combining Digital And Sustainable Innovation

The interplay between digital transformation and sustainability, the so-called twin transformation, is not merely a contemporary trend but a transformative approach that holds the potential to reshape our economic and social structures towards a more sustainable future. The twin transformation is furthermore seen as a key driver for achieving global sustainability goals and fostering green innovations. Given the transformative potential at the nexus of digital transformation and sustainability, it is of paramount interest to investigate where future developments in this combined field are headed. Building upon that, the central research question that underpins this publication is: What are the future research trends for the twin transformation? In order to gain an overview of the topic and answer the research question, a systematic literature analysis was carried out. A total of 98 papers were retained for our analysis. As a result of our study, future research paths for the twin transformation were found in the fields of Industry Sectors, Politics and Regulatory Affairs, Sustainable Development, Business Conduct and Environmental Impact. This exploration has highlighted several key areas that warrant further investigation to fully harness the synergistic benefits of integrating digital technologies with sustainability initiatives. In conclusion, the intersection of sustainability and digital transformation holds significant potential for creating a more sustainable future.
