IBPM: An integrated systems model for business process reengineering

Abstract

One of the important reasons for the low success rate of the practical implementation of Business Process Reeingineering (BPR) is the lack of good models. A good model for BPR should support not only process analysis and reengineering but also information systems development. This paper suggests an Integrated Business Process Model (IBPM), which incorporates two distinct but interrelated points of view; form and the business process. By integrating the form with the business process model, the IBPM is advantageous in BPR projects: it helps to build the model easily, to analyze and redesign the business processes, and to perform the requirement analysis of information systems. The formal framework and modeling constructs of the IBPM are presented and illustrated with a business process reengineering case of a university in Korea. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
