Towards SDGs 9, 11, and 13: The Effects of Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation on Synergetic Reduction of Pollution and Carbon Emission in Manufacturing Investment Networks

Abstract

The synergistic reduction of pollution and carbon emissions (SRPCE) is a crucial goal for achieving SDG 13 (Climate Action). Artificial intelligence technology innovation (AITI), which represents SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), has an unclear impact on SRPCE. This paper investigates how AITI promotes SRPCE through manufacturing investment networks, reflecting its role in advancing SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). From 2014 to 2022, AITI grows by 7.74%, while SRPCE increases by 8.63%. The results show that AITI significantly enhances SRPCE both locally and in investment‐receiving regions. A 1% rise in AITI leads to a 1.211% increase in local SRPCE and a 0.850% increase in spillover effects. The impact varies across city clusters and network centrality. The results reveal that manufacturing investment networks are important pathways for cross‐city technology diffusion. It provides insights for regional sharing of technological dividends and collaborative environmental governance.
