Impact of Sustainable Sourcing on Ecotourism Resilience

Abstract

Ecotourism resilience is the ability of ecotourism systems to adapt and flourish despite environmental changes, economic shocks, and social disruptions. One core and unexplored aspect of it is sustainable sourcing, which involves obtaining goods and services that protect the local economy, environment, and ethical standards. In light of these considerations, the study aims to assess the impact of sustainable sourcing on ecotourism resilience. This paper followed quantitative methods to assess the impact of sustainable sourcing on ecotourism resilience. Data was collected through structured questionnaires using systematic random sampling techniques. For data analysis, the study adopted Smart‐PLS 4.0. The study revealed that sustainable sourcing has a positive impact on the resilience of ecotourism. According to the results, cultural preservation and sensitivity had a higher impact, followed by sustainable materials sourcing. Moreover, the study recommends exploring the contextual and contributing factors of ecotourism resilience using qualitative methods (case studies and interviews). Additionally, the study recommends eco‐certification and standardization to foster long‐term sustainability and the development of ecotourism resilience. The study highlights socio‐economic benefits of sustainable sourcing and ecotourism. Moreover, the study asks for a community‐based tourism model and training program for stakeholders to strengthen ecological resilience, promote equal social benefits, and preserve resources and cultural heritage. The study offers a holistic understanding of sustainable sourcing and its role in ecotourism development. It also provides a foundation for developing a context‐specific and integrated model for designing and contributing to ecotourism processes, practices, and body of knowledge.
