Abstract

In Champagne, stratified chalky slope deposits, locally known as graveluche, are frequent. They consist of calcareous blocks, 2‐3 mm to 1‐2 cm in size, within a silty matrix. There is an alternation between lits gras and lits maigres (i.e. fine and coarser beds). Three explanations are proposed: eolian deposition, solifluction from upslope, and a gravity flow of some sort.
