La gélivation des parois rocheuses dans une glacière du jura neuchǎtelois

Abstract

L'enregistrement de la température et les mesures de l'humidité de la roche dans la glacière de Monlési ont révélé les conditions microclimatiques très particulières dans lesquelles s'effectue la gélivation de cette cavité souterraine. La très grande efficacité du gel est en apparente contradiction avec les quelques cycles de gels‐dégels annuels enregistrés. Cette intense gélivation des parois et du plafond de la glacière s'explique par le fait, que le gel agit dans une roche imbibée, voire saturée d'eau. Vu la rareté des glacières, leur impact sur l'évolution morphologique jurassienne est insignifinate. Cependant, au cours du Quaternaire, au début et à la fin des époques glaciaires, il n'est pas exclu que la plupart des cavités karstiques di Jura aient abrité une lentille de glcae. Si l'intensité de la gélivation fur celle que nous constatons aujourd'hui, ces dépressions karstiques s'avèrent ětre des formes mixtes, dues à la dissolution mais aussi à la gélivation. Temperature and humidity measurements in the ice cave of Monlési indicate special microclimatic conditions which promote frost action in this underground cavity. The high efficacy of frost is in apparent contradiction with some annual freeze‐thaw cycles measured. The intense frost action, on the walls and ceiling of the ice cave, is explained by the fact that the frost acts upon water‐saturated rock. Given the rarity of ice caves, their impact upon Jurassic morphological evolution is insignificant. However, during the Quaternary, at the beginning and end of each glacial period, it is possible that the majority of karstic cavities in the Jura contained ice bodies. If the intensity of frost action were similar to that which we observe today then these karstic depressions are of polygenetic origin, due not only to solution but also to frost action.
