Abstract

Throughout history the development Of civilization has been strongly based on the development and management of natural resources, especially mineral resources. The success of a country's growth is often closely linked to the prudent management of its mineral wealth. This article deals with the Jamaican experience in the management of the country's principal mineral resource at the moment ‐ bauxite. It deals with the early period during which there was minimal government involvement in the management of its bauxites, looks at developments since 1974, and considers plans for the future.
