Government environmental regulations and implementation in the mining sector

Abstract

The paper describes the evolution of interest in the environment, especially in relation to the mining industry. The author uses detailed examples from Ghana and other developing countries as well as from the European Union/Community. The paper describes trends leading to the adoption of the concept of sustainable development by most of the countries of the world at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Rio, June 1992).
