Abstract

Aims and objectives To examine perceived barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence‐based practice among nurses working in psychiatric, geriatric, hospital and community settings in The Bahamas. Background It is evident from previous studies that a number of factors exist which either obstruct or promote the utilisation of research evidence in nursing practice. Identifying these factors is vital to the successful uptake of evidence‐based practice in nursing. Design Descriptive, comparative study. Method Data were collected using self‐administered questionnaires. A stratified random sample (n = 100) of registered nurses participated; 5‐point Likert‐like scales were used to examine nurses’ perceptions of barriers and facilitators of evidence‐based practice.
